What is the difference between Chuncho and Criollo cacao?

While both Chuncho and Criollo are heirloom, native cacao varieties grown in Peru and ideal for Ceremony, they offer different experiences in flavour, energy, and origin story.

Chuncho cacao comes from Peru’s Amazonian and Sacred Valley regions and is believed to be one of the oldest cacao strains in the world—often considered a genetic predecessor to Criollo. It’s naturally higher in cacao butter, giving it a rich, creamy texture and deep, earthy flavour with subtle floral and fruity notes. Energetically, Chuncho is grounding and steady—ideal for inner work, clarity, and transformational Rituals.

Criollo cacao, ours grown in the Satipo region of Peru, is known for its light, silky texture and gentle flavour profile. It offers soft notes of fruit, caramel, and nut, and is often described as more delicate and heart-opening. Criollo carries a calm, graceful energy and is beautifully suited to nurturing Rituals, self-love practices, or gentle mornings.
